Employee accountability is the number one benefit managers experience. It ensures that your field service staff don’t take a two hour lunch break while pretending to be on site or at a customer’s home 

But this technology can improve your processes by providing more efficient routing.

For example, your dispatchers can know exactly where each vehicle is at all times. So when a new job is called, they can dispatch the nearest truck. All of this can be managed directly from your employee workforce mobile app.

It's a much more efficient system than manually calling every employee on the road to see where they are. This is inefficient for the management as well as the workers who interrupt these calls.

As a manager, the data generated by these workforce management tools can help you reduce costs and provide a better experience for your employees and clients.

 

2.    Improved Workflow

 

The modern workforce needs to be more efficient. When inefficiencies in the organization are identified, it gives a negative perception of management.

A study shows that 77% of field service workers use their own equipment related to work.

 

 


Only 9% of employees in this category do not use a mobile device.

There are several reasons why BYOD has become such a popular employee management tool in the field.

For starters, more companies are turning to mobile workforce solutions. Since practically everyone already has a smartphone that they use at work, it makes sense to use devices that are convenient for them.

Some products prefer Apple while others prefer to use Android. Instead of spending more money to issue company phones to a phone worker, your custom company can download their devices.

As you can see from the chart above, 5% of field service workers are provided with a device provided by their employer. 

This solves the problem of being forced to use a specific type of phone issued by the company. However, only 5% of field service workers have this option, which isn't much of a trend in 2024. We may see more of this in the future. But for now, BYOD continues to dominate field service employee management.

 

 

4.    Worker Wellbeing

Employees are more than a number on a computer screen. Companies strive to improve the well-being of their staff.

This goes beyond providing health advice and benefits for your employees. It is about creating a commitment to a culture of well-being.

North America leads the world with workplace wellness programs. In fact, 52% of North American workers have access to workplace wellness programs. This compares with 23% in Europe and 7% in the Middle East.

With that said, we are focused on these types of programs in 2024 and beyond. As a manager, you must understand the condition of sick employees.

 

 

When employees are healthy, it is recognized that managers are better for the company.

Advanced workforce management professionals encourage and promote these types of wellness programs for physical and mental well-being. Mainly, it benefits people who make them happier and healthier. This translates into better job performance and lower costs in the long run.

Ease of access to wellness programs is critical to success. For example, let's say your company offers free or discounted gym memberships to its customers.

How can your employees find information about this program?

Accordingly, if they have to visit the HR department or call a manager on the phone, they are less likely to participate. He is true for the near distant place.

But if your field service staff can access discounted health club and gym memberships directly from their mobile devices, programs will have a higher participation rate.

A happy ending will translate into better decision making and improve the experience.

 

5.    Employee self service

Employee self-service (ESS) has dominated the past few years and will peak in 2024.

Self service technology and managers benefit.

Accoardingly, your site staff have access to critical information at their home time, whether its work or not. A manager needs to be contacted to complete a delivery.

I've seen businesses that require time to process requests via handwritten notes left on a manager's desk. This adds an extra step or two to the process for everyone involved. In addition, it is incredibly difficult for field service workers who need to leave to deliver a message in person.

But workforce management tools like an HR mobile app will improve these inefficiencies.

This allows your staff to request vacation time directly from their phones. Once approved by management, automation can notify employees with a push notification. Now they don't have to check their claim status online. The message is sent directly to their phones.

 

6.       Less Emphasis on Higher Education

Companies are changing the way they hire companies. Merit is valued more than degree. Ignoring the employee’s educational history most jobs require on the job training

The modern workforce consists of people who carry manufacturing certification and other credentials.

7.       Remote work Communication

 

Did you know that 80% of the modern workforce is deskless?

Your company has a great opportunity for remote teams or people working from home. Managers still need to contact field service contacts, even if they are not at their site at some point.

But unfortunately, there is a significant disconnect between managers and employees when it comes to communication. In fact, 49% of employees say they are not happy with how management communicates with them.

Only 56% of the deskless workforce is engaged with their respective company. Productivity means experiencing communication disruptions from a remote worker to your managers. Poor communication creates employee impact, affecting employee happiness and performance.
